I am an advocate, teacher, and consultant who works with students and families throughout Massachusetts. I am a certified special education teacher and have been teaching and advocating for students and adults with disabilities for over 18 years. My love for teaching is only eclipsed by my fierce belief that every one, no matter their abilities, race, gender, religion, immigrant status, or financial circumstances deserves education and support services that are student or client centered, goal focused, and culturally relevant. Having worked within several public school systems and adult disability services in Massachusetts, I know first hand how challenging these systems can be for the individuals and their families. I can provide you with the support, skills, and knowledge to advocate for yourself or for your loved one within these challenging systems.
Our Services
Services are individualized and offered on a sliding scale. Please contact us for more information.
Consultation
The first step in this process is to have a consultation with the student or adult who is receiving services as well as their family or loved ones who are in charge of or help with their care. Families and their support system look many different ways and I am always happy to meet anyone and everyone involved. I do always want to meet the individual as well, even if it is just for a short time. I believe that as much as the individual’s ability allows, they should be involved in the process of deciding their education, care, and support. Some individuals will have different abilities to participate than others, and that’s okay! Meeting the person themselves will help me help you. During these consultations you can expect a conversation or observation with the individual, a discussion about history, current services, and current needs, and plan development for our work moving forward.
IEP/504/ISP MEETINGS
My goal is to provide you with the advocacy skills and system knowledge to help prepare you for IEP, 504, or ISP meetings. I know how daunting and frustrating these can be at times so my goal is to help you think through your current concerns, any requests for services, edit goals, and advise you on what supporting documentation you may need. We can work on your communication and negotiation skills as needed and I can attend meetings as an advocate to support this process. This process may also include a document review including testing, medical history, current IEP, 504, or ISp plans, report cards, progress notes, and any other materials that you think are important. The more information I have, the better my advocacy can be. Working within the school or adult services systems is a process but my goal is always to get the best support and services that you or your loved ones deserve.
